Nine years ago was the first time that I signed-up to participate in the
Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. I walked the walk with my sister and many of my cousins--I think that year there were 7-9 cousins that all walked together. At the time, we walked the 13.1 mile part and it was the most incredible experience of my life. The thing about that year is we were walking together as Team Fran in honor of our Aunt Fran. We all received a phone call on that morning from each of our parents letting us know that our Aunt had died that morning. Many wanted to not walk but luckily we all pushed through and made the drive to Wellesley and walked. As I said, it was the most rewarding thing we could have done that day. Since then, I have participated in the walk each year with varying participation from family but always a great day to see those who can make it. I began a few years ago walking the full 26 miles with one of my neighbors and now I continue each year. This year is even more special because my husband Joe and my oldest Danny are walking the 13.1 miles this year. I will meet them half-way through. Jenise was going to walk but as we were training and gaining in miles, we decided to make 6th grade(Danny's grade) the year for the kids to participate. Danny has been working so hard. He even uses the treadmill on those days when Daddy is not home and we can't make it out for a walk. JiaLi has been a trooper too riding for the long walks in the stroller. We have learned lots of numbers and read lots of books and eaten lots of crackers and peanut butter. (Her new favorite).
What gets me about this walk is that it seems each year we are adding someone new who has been diagnosed and in the process of fighting cancer. This year it is one of my Mom's best friends who I know well because she was previously a neighbor. She is one of those friends who has been at every important event with our family(funerals, weddings,..) She has been going through the chemo- and been very sick and weak from the medicine. She has such a great attitude about what is happening but it is so hard to watch. You just want to help and I truly feel each year as I make this walk that even though I am not a doctor, I am helping to support those who are researching to possibly one day find that cure. We have been praying for her each and every day. The Jimmy Fund is an amazing thing. They truly dedicate the money raised to fighting cancer and helping to improve the lives of those who have cancer. I attended a ceremony in March and I was wishing I had brought a notebook to document all the cancers that they were researching and the progress that they have made. I was in awe. I think we all know someone who has cancer and I am posting this for those who are willing or able to donate. I am connecting to

wow... I will check your link out. I know a little girl that came home from Guat when Jacob and Chloe did and she is 2 years into treatment. It has been very hard to watch. I was also with a dear dear family the last night they had with their cherished baby girl from China. One of the hardest things I ever was a witness of.

Your family is just so beautiful. Their faces have melted me. I think that it is outstanding that you and your family participate in a cancer walk. My MIL just passed away last month from cancer. It is a horrible disease.
